Hovey Lee :: Oceane Bracelet

Hovey Lee's recycled, socially responsible jewelry has a fabulous rocker edge that will make you feel like a (trendy) rebel with an eco cause. This piece is no exception.

Dramatic yet remarkably elegant in its strong design, this cuff has been hand cast of reclaimed brass. An organic texture with gold patina has been incorporated into its surface for a completely unique appearance.

This cuff fits close to the wrist in the center and is totally adjustable with its pliable metal arms.

Size: 4" wide and 3" tall

Made in California

The Back Story

Hovey grew up in Hong Kong and came to the United States for her degree in information science at the University of Michigan. In Ann Arbor, she attended student jewelry workshops and developed an intense interest in jewelry history and techniques. After graduation she moved to New York then San Francisco. Once there, she made a collection of jewelry and entered Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion and was selected the accessory winner in 2006. In the following years she earned the Gemological Institute of America's professional certificate. With the constant encouragement and support from her friends and family, Hovey launched her jewelry line and instantly captured the attention of the fashion and art communities.

Hovey's collection is inspired by both design forms and by world cultures. She studies the essential design elements from different ethnic styles and fuses them with her California sensibility to create a stylish, interesting, and fresh look. "I believe in celebrating our heritage and rejoicing in multiculturalism," says Hovey. "I strive to communicate this belief in my collections."

The Green Story

Hovey Lee works with a local jewelry manufacturer that sources 100% recycled metals from a recycling center. "Our jewelry is lead, nickel and cadmium free," says Hovey. "By using renewed metals, our goal is to reduce the need for additional mining of precious metals that could be very harmful to our environment." While Hovey creates all her jewelry in California, she works with fair trade vendors and eco-friendly material producers, and uses components taken from vintage jewelries to recreate some of her pieces. "Our materials are sourced from the gemstone suppliers that adhere to fair trade sourcing standards," says Hovey.

"These standards ensure that these gifts from nature are brought to the customer in a safe, socially and environmentally responsible way. It is our social obligation to continually respect basic human rights around the world and to protect the environment by conserving energy and recycling."
