The Back Story

Founder Caitlin Wicker began making Sweater Toys six years ago, following the passing of her sister's beloved stuffed bunny, Pinksey. She is inspired by vintage stuffed animals, whose imperfections give them character. Caitlin makes her whimsical toys from her home in Brooklyn, New York.

The Green Story

Caitlin tries to use mostly recycled materials in her designs - from that oh-so-soft cashmere sweater she accidentally shrunk, to Grandma's moth-eaten cardigan. She likes the idea of giving new life to something that was once loved, so that it can be loved again! She gets her sweaters through donations from friends, family, and customers, as well as through thrift store purchases, washes them, and transforms them by hand into her adorable toys. The Lila Mae line of Sweater Toys is stuffed with either 100% cotton or bamboo fiber, making them not only fluffy and cuddly, but also green!
